Kim's completed bedroom redo

I've been working on redoing my bedroom for a while now, and it's finally complete. Well, as complete as any room in my home can be, as I am often rearranging. But I'm pretty happy with the bedroom as it is now. Back in April I blogged about starting the bedroom and some of my ideas (and the demo of the huge closet that was in the room). Then a couple weeks later I managed to get the room painted, and blogged about it here. Slowly but surely the rest came together and I think I can call it done. I took some photos on Saturday, and boy was this room tough to photograph. The room is small (12'x11' I think) and the pale pink walls looked white in most of the photos so I had to do some photoshopping to try and get some of them looking accurate. (And I'm not good at PS). So here it is....

P.S. I uploaded a bunch of photos on Flickr (here is my photostream and here is my bedroom set) if you want to see more details of the room.

Thank you everyone!

Drey, I may not have a Hannah to muck things up but 6 cats can do the job quite well. And your Shabner looks amazing between the windows. She could not have fit more perfectly. Thank you for making her not work out in your home. :)

Katie, the first and third prints from the left I found at dkim.etsy.com. The photograph is one of mine that I had blown up. The owl is by Bespoke Press.

splendid floor!!!! you painted on wood? what kinf of wood?
we are redoing the floor and are thinking about painting our solid pinewood. not sure about the color and white seems to be a wonderful idea.

The floors in the bedroom are a wood laminate, so they aren't really wood. I painted all the hardwood on the main floor of my house as well as the staircase. I suggest doing some sanding to get any existing finish off first (I didn't and should have). I say GO FOR IT and paint your floors white. Hope you like sweeping though! :)

It's lovely. I wouldn't worry too much about being called garish, if you check the kind designer's website it becomes clear that garish = not having a McMansion budget. I feel pretty garish myself.

It looks great, not garish! And I really like the photos. Is cat's hair easily visible on this beautiful floor?

Gorgeous! I love how all of the bright colors have come together in this space.

I agree about the over-styling bit but i suppose you were jsut trying to get good camera shots. garish can be a compliment! just means glaringly showy. flashy second-hand shabby is what style I would guess you were boldly aiming for. Good on you for being so daring!

hey kim tell us about your groups of collections. odd if not atypical selection there for someone as young as yourself (no indignity intended, its just seems geriatric - my nanna is bit of a matron hoarder as well, hunting down & hanging on to random age-old stuff which she displays all over the place! you will surely surpass her stockpile by life's end! are they inherited items or heirlooms? do spill. thanx)

Thank you Anon (10:12), and believe me, I'm not worried. :)

Stefanie, cat hair is VERY visible on the floor, especially when there's 6 of them in and out of there. I choose to ignore it most of the time. Otherwise I'd be swiffering in there 8 times a day.

Sorry sammy but I still don't get what's over-styled about this. Should I have left some cubes empty? Not put anything along the top of the shelving? Once the photos were done, I removed the tray from the bed. That was it. I also don't really get what's flashy or showy or daring about this. It's a bunch of thrifted crap I've collected that didn't have a home in the other 4 rooms in my house. I'm starting to think alot of people out there are WAY too boring with their spaces if this room is such a shocker.

Anon (8:33) - I really enjoy hunting through shitty thrift stores and the couple tiny flea markets we have here in this city and finding odd things, that have a history. We do have Ikea, and I suppose I could have gotten everything else there besides the bed and shelving, but I don't really find generic spaces interesting. Besides a few tchotchkes in my living room and my office, that's about all the crap I have amassed over the past couple of years. They're from eBay, Etsy, many Jo sent me that she picked up in thrift stores, and a few from Homesense (a great discount decor store).

kim, that's what i think i like about your "work" :)

it's so speaking of a few things: 1. your passions, 2. your budget (they are of normal average people! and 3. your dare :)

i love it.

btw, I also prefer vintage, one off.. pieces. go THRIFT STORES!

Oh my goodness! I realize I'm a bit late to comment on this, but I had to leave you a little note anyway, because I feel so blown away - your bedroom is gorgeous!

Not just gorgeous, but creative, fun, and individual. It's obviously filled with the things that make you happy, and that is wonderful.

I like the way you start off with your pictures showing just a glimpse, and more and more is revealed as you look at them, makes the bedroom tour exciting. As usual I love looking at all your stuff and how you choose to arrange it, so much fun. I look forward to seeing pics of your future renos. Your flickr stream and blog are two of my favourite places for inspiration.

You may not be an "Interior Design" that went to a college, etc...etc... BUT I think you are a natural. You have so much style and creativity that just POURS out of you. You are awesome.

Late to the game again, but I wanted to say how fantastic I think your space looks. I love your vignettes, your vintage camera collection, your chair and bedside table, your painted floors, the pale pink walls, and I could go on. It is a space that seems to really tell a story, and I love that.

I can't believe I missed this when you posted it!!! (I'm hoping you get an e-mail alert when people comment or you'll never know I'm commenting on this!)

Anyhow--It. Looks. A. Mazing. I ADORE your style - you even make knicknacks stylish, which in my book is a huge feat. This is truly inspiring.

You have a beautiful collection of unique items! I came across this blog a while ago and cant stop thinking about this particular "vase" you have. That retro green vase with 4 or 5 holes at the top holding individual flowers... can you tell me where that came from? If there's any inforamtion (brand name or year or whatever) on it? perhaps at the bottom? I'd really love to know so I can find one for myself. Much appreciated and thanks!!!

Again, you have great stuff! Keep it up! You're lucky to find cool stuff! I dont even know where to begin :)
