Kim's long weekend

This is the last day of my Easter weekend (5 days!) and it was fix-up-my-bedroom weekend. Plaster, sand, wait for it to dry, plaster, sand, wait for it to dry.....still waiting.....to hell with it, paint, paint, paint. This went on for 3.5 straight days. I was too impatient to do a great job but it was good enough. You can hardly tell there used to be a closet in my bedroom. Mission accomplished.

Here's a quick glimpse (as I showed you all the other day) of the former room, looking at the mess that used to be the closet (and what a b*tch that was to patch):

I went with a very pale pink on the walls, which turns out to be hard to photograph accurately. I chose BM's Elephant Pink at 25% strength, and BM's Snowfall White for the trim and the floors. I need to give the floor a few days to cure so in the meantime I am sleeping on my DIY couch. Turns out painting laminate floors works quite well. (I plan on replacing all that cheap laminate with hardwood eventually). This morning I put out a few items I hope to use in the new bedroom, to give you an idea of where I'm going with this project. Vintage boho I'll call it - which means I get to reuse alot of junk I already have as I am still trying to pay off my kitchen and funds are reeeeeally low.

Hopefully next weekend I'll be able to move some furniture in there and get out to Ikea to get the rest of what I need (new headboard-less/footboard-less bed frame and bookcases). More photos to come after that happens.

Love the chair. Is there a name for that kind of woven chair with the high back?

I LOVE Elephant Pink! It was the color I painted my bedroom in my last apt and now the color of my closet in my new place. It is bright and refreshing without being super pink and girly.

And your floors? To die for!

It's a peacock chair. Found it at a flea market for $12.

Love your vintage look, can't wait to see where it goes!

How exciting! I love how you painted the floors - I never would have thought of that. And I love the glimpse you're giving us of what's to come - can't wait to see how you pull it all together!

How awesome!!! I didn't realize that you could paint laminate floors! I mean, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm like "Why not?". But it's not something I had thought of.

Love where you're going with this!

This is my first attempt at painting laminate floors so I cannot tell you how durable it really is because I haven't used the room yet. But my directions are simple - BM Porch and Floor Alkyd High Gloss paint. I used it in my office and LOVE the gloss (and it feels sooooo smooth). It goes on very easily, although it takes almost 24 hours between coats (open windows to quicken it, and for the putrid smell). No need to prime the floors. Just slap this stuff on (2 coats) and you're good to go.

Waaaaait a minute! Elephants are PINK???
Seriously, what you've done looks fantastic Kim. And I like how you've arranged all your goodies for the shot. Perfecto. :)

No wonder I could never get you over the weekend! Lookin' good. And from one peacock chair lover to another that one is just shabby enough to make that room rock.

Good job on the patching - I've been there, and oh what suffering it is. The floor looks GREAT. I need to try that on my floors!

I've been dreaming of painting my floors white but don't have the guts or the energy. I can't believe you did all this work yourself. It looks fantastic! I'm looking forward to seeing the room when it's all finished.

hello! the wall looks beautiful and that elephant pink is so pretty. i'm looking at that beautiful picture frame and the colors of those gorgeous pillows and everything really goes good together. can't wait to see what the finished room will look like. i really love the old portrait paintings. this one is beautiful. is it someone you know or just a beautiful painting you found? the colors in the painting go perfect with the color on the wall. very pretty.

P.S. the patch work looks amazing!

God Bless,

Thanks everyone!!

Charmaine - the print I bought from my blog friend Audrey, who bought it on eBay. It's by Lou Shabner, a famous pin-up artist. It's from the 70's I think.
