Thank you for this post! I first set eyes on a butterfly chair in 1959, when I was five years old in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. New neighbors moved into the house next door, an architect and his school teacher wife. Their daughter, nearly my age, quickly became my playmate and when I walked into their spartenly furnished livingroom the first time, there sat a pair of butterfly chairs with yellow canvas slings---the coolest chairs I'd ever seen! I've been in love with this chair ever since.
Flash forward to 1990, I was living in a downtown apartment in the (lively bohemian) Capital Hill neighborhood in Seattle finishing up my masters degree in architecture. In the corner of the apartment building common laundry room was a sign "take it or leave it" for disposing of unwanted items. I walked past the pile of sturdy black bent rods at least three laundry days before my subconscious spoke to me in my apartment one day and said: "Hey, that's a disassempled butter fly chair down there in the laundry room!" My heart thumping, I ran downstairs and grabbed all the unclaimed rods---I'm sure no one else had recognized the object that was a pile of bent rods, either! I assembled the pieces on my living room floor. It took me an hour to figure it out! I had a local sail maker sew a canvas sling for it. Butterfly chair: a simple beautifully designed object that holds my affection. Toni
OHHH, what a great story Toni! This fall I had to throw out my vintage rattan patio set (it has seen far too much rain) and I would LOOOOVE to replace it with a bunch of butterfly chairs placed in a circle on my deck. :)
KC - I had someone else email with that problem a couple days ago and the folks at Squarespace have no idea why it's not working only for some Google readers. (You could always go old school and actually come visit the blog. :) )
Great selection of pictures, thanks a lot ! Have anyone here ordered a Butterfly chair on this website : www.defaistre.com/cote-jardin/35-chaise-butterfly.html ? They apparently deliver for free in Belgium (also, in France and Luxembourg). I'm considering to buy 1 or 2 chairs, which are not that expensive. Cheers,

love your selection. My favorite are the leather ones
Very laidback camp fire-ish. It just invites you to lounge around doesn't it?
All of the sudden, within the last few posts, I can't view any of your images in my Google RSS Feed. Investigate, please! I love your blog!
