NYC apartment tour
Thu, 15 Jan 2009Over a year ago artist, stylist and designer Amy Beth Cupp Dragoo of ABCD Design emailed us with some photos of her home that her and her husband were renovating. We were happy to post them, and to my delight, she emailed photos yesterday of the completed renovation! To quote ABCD: "now that the renovation is complete, we are moving on to a new project". HUH??? When you see the photos below of this phenomenal NYC apartment, you too will be asking how she could possibly leave this. There's nothing I don't love about her home. It's an eclectic mix of styles that works so well together, bold use of colour throughout that stands out against the white walls, the dramatic artwork, those to-die-for hardwood floors, and don't get me started on that kitchen and bathroom (I'm pretty sure I had a dream recently about that exact bathroom). Thanks for sharing these with us ABCD!
This is the great room (*sigh*...a great room would be really great) where ABCD works, and she and her husband Scott live in the back section.
I love her home so much that I wanted to include more photos that she took over the holidays that show other angles of the spaces. Just more eye candy. DELISH.

I said it in today's post on my blog *but seriously* to have Desire to Inspire feature my interior design work is a true highlight of my interior design career!
I truly believe that living with and incorporating the things we love and cherish along with displaying the collections we hold dear to our hearts adds to the space in a very special way.
I can't wait to start over in a new spot. I will find new ways to display and decorate all while incorporating "our stuff" and personality as a couple. I will be sure to share pics of the next incarnation!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that apartment. The vintage posters are WONDERFUL. Actually, their isn't one thing I don't like in it. Awww, soaking in that tub...or just making coffee in the kitchen. Mixture of styles...Perfect!

oh. my. goodness. if you took all of my completely unrealistic apartment dreams and decorating fantasies and smushed them together in one fantastic space - this would be it. good heavens. i can't stop looking at the photos! it is PERFECT. truly. those huge windows are mind boggling. and the kitchen. oh the white kitchen! thank you for sharing. if ABC needs someone to , you know, keep house please let me know. i am very handy.

WOW! Such lovely compliments, many thanks! To answer your questions, The Sassy Kathy and Room Design Studio, it is a loft in the heart of Soho. In 1890 (when the building was first built) it housed a hat factory. Then, it became a rug storage facility.An artist from Mexico bought the floor around 1980 and never lived in the space. We got it in Fall of 2006 and renovated it to our specifications.
As for the vintage posters, I started collecting my first year of college. I buy at vintage poster shows and at auction. All the rosy cheeked gals are either winged creatures, doing housework or sometimes they are wearing wings WHILE homemaking. It is a really fun collection to build on.

Certainly is a show piece but the thing I like most was knowing the floor plan.
I was completely loving pouring over the pictures of this fabulous apartment. The kitchen is gorgeous and I too absolutely love the vintage posters. They have an amazing impact grouped together on the wall. Hayley

I was scrolling through the pics and thought - nice, armchairs at the end of the bed, but I wonder how often they sit in them, and then scrolled further to see that they form part of a wonderful huge room. So a post full of surprises which is also fun I am very jealous of your Christmas shots - one of my favourite things in life is a twinkling Christmas tree but here in Sydney you only get that effect from about 9.30 at night. Also love the big wooden armoire.
I remember when you profiled her pre renovation apartment over a year ago. In fact I think I have some of those pictures still saved to my inspiration folder. And wow. I didn't think it could get better but this apartment is perfection! Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!
If I could make my own apartment look like anything, it would be that! Amazing. I really do get so much inspiration from this blog (which is important for an interior architecture/ design student).
That is my dream kitchen! My husband and I are in the process of buying a home and that is the kitchen I envision for it. Could anyone make out the dimensions of the kitchen? I couldn't read it clearly in the blueprint. Is that a soapstone countertop? Anyone know how the cost of Soapstone compares with other countertop prices, such as grantite?
KatyO!, the kitchen is 13'8" x 10'7". When I was looking for countertops for my new kitchen, I found a place that sold quartz cheaper than any other engineered stone or granite. And with granite you are more limited in colours and they are usually pretty busy patterns in comparison.
Our counter top is soapstone with an extra-deep undermount square bottomed sink made out of the same material. I chose it for it's beautiful matte finish and to be true to the era when the loft was built. It is incredibly resisiant, and beautiful. I love that the shade of the counter will darken overtime.
Including the custom sink, our counter top was only a few hundred dollars more than if we did it in granite.

Stunning!!! Woow! I love how all rooms, cabinets and closets are on one wall. So you have all those windows and a big long space free. The posters are amazing too and I love how they're grouped. They really grab your attention.
