Virtual space
Second Life is an online digital world imagined, created and owned by it's residents. There are over 6.5 million people living in Second Life and they spend almost $1.5 million US a day. Nathan Babcock is a resident of this virtual world and a talented home designer in the game of Second Life. These are examples of his work. Everything from prefab houses, retail spaces and interior designs. In the real world Nathan Tia is always looking to build projects in-world. Check his flickr site for more. For more information or to commission custom design builds in Second Life, please contact Nathan Babcock (Tia) in game or real world via his flickr mail.

This is so cool. Being a web developper/programmer, I'd love to get my hands on this software. Actually - I should probably stay away. I spend WAY too much time on the computer as it is.
As a designer I outsource all my 3D renderings but I would love to learn how to do it myself and save some $$$ .. but I agree with Kim, I'd probably spend way too much time on it as if I don't spend enough time on the computer as is!
Makes me want a second life to get a place like that!
I'm still getting over the fact that that much money is spent each day in Second Life. Maybe I need an interior design practice in there. Maybe not. I'd never get anything else done. Nate's work is great and that it's not "real" is fascinating.
What's really interesting is seeing designers make their mark first in SL and then in the real world. In life it would require funding, contractors and time to develop a home, design collection or space design. But online you can fully demonstrate the range of your skills without needing a client to commission the work.
Very cool for those with digital skills!
Thank you for all your comments. I am thoroughly impressed at the possibilities of Second Life. I love designing things in SL but in RL I am by no means a designer.
Not having constraints of cost, and RL land space to build things Second Life is my perfect sandbox to explore my imaginations.
