Housekeeping

It’s been a busy few weeks on desire to inspire. First Blogger made us a blog of note. What an honour! Then we were guests on design*sponge. The crowds dropped in to see who we are and our hits skyrocketed. It was great having extra readers. Lots of lovely comments on the blog which made us feel proud of the job we do and made us feel appreciated. Then the spam and negative comments started.

Kim and I hate spam comments. If we want to know the 6 easy ways to make money from our blog or improve our traffic then we’ll start making spam comments offering the same “sage” advice for a price. Same with ambush marketing. By all means comment on the blog but don’t say “great” and then a huge link to your time share business.

Negative comments are another thing. Kim and I welcome all comments just like we share all styles of interiors. (OK that’s a lie. I won’t post frilly, country style with copper kettles and dried floral arrangements on this blog. However if Kim chose to then that’s her decision). What we will not tolerate anymore is the sort of negative comment that is personal. The “how could you if you were a moral person etc”, “I would have expected more from you ……” sort of comment. Often these are made by an avid reader called anonymous. We have decided that comments contrary to what we like, say or post are fine as they always have been BUT they will not be anonymous nor will they contain “baiting” of either of us. So anonymous comments will be deleted and all comments we believe to be a personal attack will also be removed. By all means disagree with what we show. Just state your case and your name and leave the personal out of it. If you can’t then tough. This is censorship but it’s our blog. We write this blog for ourselves and you come and visit. Don’t like it, don’t visit. If a few people leave then all the better for our supportive readers.

I don't believe it. I just had to delete the first comment on this post because it was SPAM. LOL!!!

i've been following your blog from the very beginning and i'm a HUGE fan (though i don't think i've ever commented). i never read the comments section so i'm surprised by the snarkiness. i guess there will always be party poopers wherever there is a party.

congrats on all the nice exposure. i do hope you guys make buckets of moolah. i think i'm making $1 a week from my blog and even that astounds me.

Happy Renovating ... ^^

Your blog is nice and interesting, may spamming fools never distract you.

spamming is also a kind of popularity symptom)

Thanks for all the nice comments folks, especially from the first-time commenters! To answer Blind Spot's questions, I found a template online and tweaked it beyond recognition, and we use basic HTML to format the layout of each post. The google search I found via "Business Solutions" link on Google's home page. Our banner I managed to create with some basic photoshopping. (Helps that I'm a web developper by trade...although I don't get much layout coding to do so this was a blast).

What kind of person would post ad hominem attacks on this blog? This is the most uncontroversial blog I've ever read--I mean, for goodness' sake, most posts have more images than words!

Keep it up, guys. At the end of the day, you will always know that your desire to inspire has not been wasted, because most of your readers have truly loved looking at the gorgeous images you dig up.

Hi Everyone!
Just to let you know that I don't see negative comments or personal attacks on this blog and I read it daily!
If you are referring to the comments about animals, well, good heaven's that isn't anything personal! Some people just do not believe in real fur or leather or ponyskin or whatever, that's all. Don't sweat it. Jo & Kim. It's just someone's philosophy.
Your blog is inspiring to many people, so keep it up regardless of someone else's beliefs (and no need to delete those activist posts, as they aren't hating on you!!).
I always look forward to my morning read, so continue inspiring us regulars!
Thanx, Heather in Bellingham

Jo and Kim,

Your blog is my daily dose of beautiful environments and a valuable source of inspiration for us in decorating our home. Please don't be disheartened by snarky commenters. You have a lot of readers who adore your blog but don't comment (ie. like me, this is my first comment). You're doing a great job!

I don't know how anyone could leave a bad comment for you guys. I come here to look at pictures of rooms. Some I like, and some I don't, but they're all interesting, unique, and they definitely INSPIRE. I love your blog. Keep it up.

Very well said.

Delighted to have found you. A breath of fresh air...lifted my spirits and I loved your from the heart rant on comments.

8 Oct 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJoyce

I cannot believe anyone would comment negatively!?!

What a beautiful blog.

Inspired, indeed!

8 Oct 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBoom

touche!
oh yes indeed, the animalcomments! i must agree with you Heather. those must be what this disciplinary post is addressing as i, too, have not noticed any hate mail or negativity.
those can be taken out of context. oh well. to each his own.

Hello! I'm also commenting for the first time!

Just wanted to stop in and say how much I love your blog! I check in every day for more pictures and postings of inspiration!

I agree with what someone said about how negative comments are a sign of popularity. BUT it still doesnt excuse them. I guess not everyone practices the "if you dont have anything nice" rule.

Love ya ya'll do! Thank you for doing what you do!
