Westhampton beach playhouse

The New York based design team of Chango & Co. continue to blow me away with their spectacular spaces. This home is by far one of my favourites. It helps that it is a beach house. You can pretty much get away with anything at a client's second home - like pineapple wallpaper and REALLY bright yellow paint. The tricky part is having "fun" designing a giant five bedroom beach house that needs a major overhaul (and a lot of minor construction) on a ten-week timeline. So with complete creative freedom, but very little time, we set out to design a home that would serve as an escape from the city and the restraints of apartment living for this young couple and their three beautiful (and very playful) children. From the front porch, this home looks like any other house in the quiet family neighborhood that surrounds it. When the door you enter reveals a banana yellow interior, the foyer leads to a formal dining room with pineapple patterned walls, then into a candy-colored kitchen… you know you’re in the midst of people who know how to have fun. Each room was crafted around the vividly colorful personalities in the family to encourage as much unrestrained joy & unconfined playtime as possible and the end result is a celebration of whimsy & lightness of spirit… a true playhouse for kids, big and small alike. Where I want to be right now

I am exhausted. All I want to do is curl up with many cups of tea and some movies and magazines and chill out. If it were on this settee I would never leave. Via Kate Monckton Interior Design.

P.S. Our apologies for the annoying in-image ads that keep popping up everywhere. We had decided to give these a try but they are showing up much more frequently than they were supposed to and several days ago I removed the tags that display them but they continue to appear and our ad guy is looking into it. I assure you we will do our best to get rid of these ads as soon as possible. (UGH!)

Dramatic colour

One of my personal favourite dramatic colour combinations is black, white, grey and yellow. This model apartment designed by British design firm Honky is modern and funky with cool whites, smoky greys with accents in black and yellow and bits of gold. Graphic and edgy works really well to reel in potential buyers. I adore the bird print above.

A new traditionalist

Like a rakish bad boy holding court, modern statement pieces spice up the elegant, traditional rooms in New York interior designer Caleb Anderson's portfolio. His sophisticated spaces pay homage to the past always with an eye to the future. It's about drama, contrast and luxe salon style living. The richness comes from layering of texture and materials often with a bold colour accent taking the design to the next level.
