WINKS

.... I'm obsessed with growing moss. Help! My home is being taken over.

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • Cliff Spencer is a furniture maker. His website says so. He specialises in highest quality modern and traditional cabinetry, custom furniture, green materials, finishing & refinishing. But Cliff isn't a furniture maker. He's an artist. Wood comes alive under his hands. As the website says, "When the morning sun hits the swirling grain of the wood in one of our pieces in just the right way, you’ll see a different angle, a shape, a curve you hadn’t noticed before. It’s old world craftsmanship in modern times, using only the finest joinery, built to last for generations." Live simply with beautiful artisan pieces.

  • Kim and I have been waiting for some time to introduce you to Manvi Drona-Hidalgo and her blog Mochatini. Emails back and forth and now she feels she's ready ;) "With Mochatini, I hope to share with you things that inspire me, that I am passionate about, some upcoming artists, timeless classics with modern twists, my attempts at design and other musings." Manvi is a busy woman. She also blogs for 2Modern’s Design Talk and Vogue India. Click on over and say hi! Oh and check out all the eye candy.

  • Belgian furniture designer Casimir Meubelen has launched a new website and is exhibiting his first new furniture pieces after four years of design silence. Casimir uses the symbolism of the well known I form of a building-construction as the inspiration for "The Poutrel". Find out details of the exhibition in Antwerp and discover more of his design here.

  • Up To You is the über stylish creation of brother and sister team Bill and Dimitra Doufekas. This Toronto design destination showcases funky objects and gifts housed in a shop that replicates your trendy friend's apartment. So many of their internationally sourced pieces can't be sourced anywhere else in Canada. Kim is always lamenting the lack of great design shopping in Ottawa. Maybe a short trip to Toronto will cure your blues Kim. They have an online shop as well.

  • What do you think this is? It's crusted with Swarovski crystals. Perhaps jewellery? A hair clip? A pendant? A brooch? No it's jewellery for your home.

Yes, a crystal encrusted mural you can apply to a wall a column, a head board. Anywhere. The Saturday Décor designs and produces a unique line of home décor products — including window and wall décor, jewellery, lighting, and pendants. Duco Phangsoa emailed to introduce this concept. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. OTT definitely but just right for your own personal palace!

  • I wish emails had smells. This one had me wishing for an internet version of scratch and sniff. "Diptyque, the effortlessly chic brand from France, has the solution for your fireplace woes. French for “wood fire,” Diptyque’s Feu de Bois candle is the perfect substitution for a crackling fireplace. The earthy-but-refined candle is infused with a complex scent that is evocative of fir trees, firewood and autumn woodlands." Website is coming soon but there is a store locator. I'm so intrigued I'm off to Ollie and LLoyd in Brisbane to savour the scent.

  • Another new blog. This time from Byron Bay in Australia. (God's own country.) Paisley Peacock and Paneer combines decor (paisley and the peacock bit) and blogger Mamta Pinnell's other passion, Indian vegetarian cuisine (paneer - it's a soft cheese). Interior design and home-wares (with lots of paisleys), beautiful Byron Bay, India and vegetarian cooking! Sounds like candy for the eye and the spice for the taste buds.

    WINKS

... searching thrift stores this weekend for more West German pottery for my collection.

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

    • Sanford Burrows is a new line of modern, luxe, Italian bed linens created out of LA by designer Jill Sanford Burrows. Jill mixes modern aesthetic and design with traditional, Italian linen making. Beautiful, fresh, crisp and modern. Love it!

    • It's on again and already it is just as controversial as last year's poll. Singapore blog Home Rejuvenation is looking for 10 Most Influential Design Bloggers. This year they've teamed up with international design purveyor Wallpaper* to reward 3 lucky voters (picked at random) each with a free 1-year subscription to the print magazine. Details here.

    • Two different pattern ways, modernist geometric and stylised organic safari prints, two different colourways and two graphic safari animal rugs. This is the inaugural range of Themselves. Who are Themselves? A new venture from Multistorey, Marcus James and Lulu Roper-Caldbeck. More here.

    • New from White Webb, three additions to their Clearly Classic Collection. Oooooh love acrylic furniture and these occasional tables are chic and functional. Where can you find one? Details on White Webb's design log.

    • Back, due to popular demand .... OrangeBeautiful's Motivate Prints! The first batch sold out in 2 weeks and with the amount of people asking for more, Emily and Laura just had to print a 2nd edition! Available of course from their etsy shop. Loving their "laugh dream love" and "cash money" prints as well!

    • Email from Moderndose. "THE QUEEN HAS ARRIVED! NEW for FALL'08. Very Chic. This contemporary Queen wall clock will look great in any room of your home. The modern clock available in black or orange acrylic. Ready to hang." Old Liz is still hot as are most things Brit punk at the moment. I have a soft spot for these. Add a couple of safety pins and an expletive a la Sex Pistols and I'm sold. (Sorry I'm an old punk.)

    • Have you caught the blogger house tours on The Love List yet? Cassandra from coco + kelley, Karen from Alkemie, Chris from stylenorth, Erin from Elements of Style, Michelle of Rubie Green and many more have all photographed their homes for Jessica and she's sharing them with all of us. Addictive look into the lives of our favourite design bloggers.

    • We've winked Bond & Bowery before. It's a source of design, a marketplace of antiques and a gallery of fine art. Ben Spaisman, Bond & Bowery's President emailed to let us in on a great new service. "The DealerDirect feature enables Bond & Bowery registered users to submit a request for a specific item (or items), that they have been unable to find on our site or elsewhere, to our entire network of dealers. The submissions are posted dynamically in a Craig’s List type format so that Bond & Bowery dealers can browse and respond to any requests that they can fulfill." Clever idea Ben!
I'm out of time again! Lots more for next week. Have a great weekend!

    • Studio Nommo is a customized wallpaper studio, offering creative, extraordinary and design oriented wallpapers. Their collections are created by young designers, illustrators and graphic artists from all around the world. You can also create your own wallpaper design or ask them to create a customized design for you. Deniz Akgullu is the brains behind this inspirational Turkish company. Don't worry though they can ship internationally. These are amazing wallpapers and my imagination is running wild with applications. So much eye candy on this website!

    • Loving these hand painted plates by Kristina available at her etsy shop krisatomic. Along with original fine art photography and original mixed media drawings, the fine porcelain plates are fresh and fun. Don't miss her blog either.

    • Dallas design store Positive Space focuses on intelligent and unique design. Caitlin an associate with Positive Space emailed to introduce us to the lines they stock. Each line they work with is "innovative, smart, strong and attractive". Sixinch is a Belgian design company creating, besides funky interiors, furniture and accessories lines of polyurethane coated pieces (all non-toxic) that are indoor/outdoor safe. This is a wonderful line of edgy, modern furniture just right for dramatic window displays, photo shoots, and customization. Available in any color on the Pantone or RAL color charts so let your imagination run wild. Thanks for the intro Caitlin. I just wish I was in Dallas to drop by and drool over your design showroom.

    • Blog alert! Blomsterverkstad is where Minna from Sweden shares her inspiration. And what captures Minna's heart? Flowers and everything natural. Drop over and scroll through the gorgeous arrangements she crafts. She's now writing in English now and walks you through how to achieve the look.

    • In the Chicago area? Have a "thing" for romantic gardens? Looking for the finishing touch for your home? Love the hunt for beautiful antique pieces? Diane emailed to introduce Scentimental Gardens run by her amazingly talented sister Debra. Not just a beautiful antique store it's a garden shop, landscape design firm and exterior stylist. I soooooo need to visit this beautiful store. Unfortunately Geneva, Il is a little closer to Chicago than it is to Brisbane Australia. Not fair!

    • Michelle Bradley from Bradley Hughes sent us more images of their hot, hot, hot furniture. (See my earlier post here.) Click on the images for a closer look and if you haven't been to their website go now.

    • This one's for Kim. The Verner Panton Brunch Series. The pattern is called Geometry 1 and is from 1960. Available in boxes of four coloured cups, bowls or egg cups; red, orange, purple, turquoise or black and white. You can find them online at danskdesign.nu here. Too cool!

    • Ever hankered for a mid-century modern birdhouse? Great video over at Curbly. I wonder if the birdies would like some mid-century modern furniture as well?

    • So many beautiful things in my inbox this week. I am speechless over this one. Misha Handmade Wallpapers selects, produces and distributes silk hand-painted wallpapers. You must must must go to their website and drool. Misha also creates stunning contemporary furniture with a twist. Clean modern lines combined with rich, luxurious, hand-painted papers reviving historical patterns. Trust the Italians to take wallpaper to the next level. Go.... what are you waiting for? Swoon.

    • Oh my, oh my, oh my!!! More beautiful furniture, some of the most stunning organic lines I have seen for a long long time. The company is Ode Chair .... contemporary organic chairs hand made in Northumberland, England. The creative genius behind them is Jolyon Yates. Must have please please.

    • Lina lives in Stockholm, Sweden and has a home styling company. She's just started a webshop C'est la vie Home featuring pretty little decorating objects as well as luxury chocolate and tea. In Swedish of course but that's what page translators are for. Beautiful pictures speak all languages. Check out her blog too. Good luck with your online business Lina!

    • Caroline from Belgium recently started her blog, Carrie Can, as a way of collecting and sharing her inspirations and work with her readers. Pop over and say hi!

    • Another new blog alert. Designer/artist Annie Coggan emailed to introduce Chairs and Buildings. "I am a new faculty member at Mississippi State University teaching design studio and furniture design. (I was in Brooklyn and teaching at Parsons and Pratt for 10 years). This new life has given me time to organize my thinking for lectures and projects so I started a blog as a sketchbook." It's visual food for thought.

    • Jonathan Adler has gone country? Yay? Nay? Or Ye-ha!

    • Have you seen the blog Lime in the Coconut yet? Love Linda's profile - "Living life in a humble Florida hacienda...surrounded by family, dogs, art and PLENTY of sand on the floor. Oh, and a lizard or two that always seem to find their way in the open doors and windows. Hey, what can I say...Sometimes it just isn't pretty. But it IS home." The blog is full of eye candy with special emphasis on tropical style.

    • Where does Erin from Design for Mankind find the time? The woman is a creative dynamo. She's collaborating with the Art House Co-Op, an Atlanta-based gallery on The Scavenger Project. "We're making a book and we need your help! We're going to send you a list of 24 things which will end up being the 24 chapters of the book. Each chapter is a reference to a moment, scenario, or item and we need your help visually representing each item." Find out more here.

    • James Saavedra from Decor Fellow has a new online magazine fellow* and it is soooooooooooooooooo good. Stylish and right on the trends. Can't wait for more!
Please forgive me if I stop here. I have so much to share but not enough time today. There's always next week!

    WINKS

.... stole this from kim's flickr because I love that mural and LURVE that cat

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

    • Andrew Puschel shared Schumacher's new website launch earlier this year. Now he's let us in on the soft launch of the new Patterson Flynn and Martin site. "PFM is a boutique floorcovering company based in New York (and doesn’t yet have Australian distribution), but I thought you would appreciate its brand new website because it offers the best searchable database of any trade only carpet or rug company." And it does!! Beautiful beautiful floorcoverings to covet. I was wriggling my toes into their luxurious pile in my imagination as I clicked from page to page. Check it out!

    • Sale time! Jaime emailed, "We're having a great sale at Vitamin D(esign) and we've also recently added our VERY popular notebooks and reusable shopping bags to the sale - they're all 20-25% off for a limited time!" Love those eco shopping bags and LOVE a sale. Check it all out here.

    • Have you been to the new website housetribe? Real houses from around the world and almost as much fun as roaming the neighbourhood and peering through open windows ;) "The best place to see and show houses on the web! Post for-sale or rent and get worldwide exposure. Or post just for fun, and enter the House of the Week contest!" I'm off to lurk.

    • Zinnias - new ideas/great looks/inspiration. I'm so glad Tina emailed and I found her blog. Lots of eye candy! Thank God it's the weekend and lots of free time to go through Tina's archives!

    • Yeah! Another great blog to leisurely click through this weekend. Ill Seen, Ill Said created by Jane Flanagan, online media writer and now happily transplanted Irish woman in Toronto. I'm so glad you stopped lurking Jane and introduced yourself!

    • Nicola from Coast New Zealand emailed with images of Coast's outdoor beanbags. Made from Sunbrella fabric and 100% outdoors tough they are part of Coast's luggage and outdoor furniture range. Perfect for lounging about in. I couldn't keep my eyes off the view though Nicola (Waiheke Island). Just wish I had a spot like that on the edge of an infinity pool to threw down my beanbag ....sigh.

    • This too in our inbox. "Just a quick note to introduce you to Viewville...a new site dedicated to selling fine art photo prints at an affordable price. The brainchild of my brilliant family (official family PR girl here!), Viewville was launched by my photographer uncle, my tech geek brother in law and my design-snob aunt and mother to bring good art to everyone. No more bad poster art! Each print is from the personal archives of a professional photographer, and arrives matted and ready to frame, a simple way to introduce art into the home or office." Love this rumpled bed black & white. So many more on the website though! Thanks Nora!
