A compact loft

If you've got to live in a small space, why not make it a loft? Nothing like soaring cielings to make you forget how little square footage you actually have. That's why I love this little downtown Salt Lake CIty, Utah loft for sale by cityhomeCollective. It's a 452 sq ft space with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom over 2 floors with a little patio to boot. LOVE the brick exterior, original hardwood and exposed ductwork. A funky bachelor  pad(or bachlorette if you throw in some feminine touches).

Lucyna's latest project

We've featured Polish interior designer Lucyna Kołodziejska's work a few times in the past (here, here and here), and she emailed recently with yet another fabulous small apartment she designed. This apartment is in Sopot, it is designed for rent, for weekends, for tourist that want to feel some atmosphere of old XIX town Sopot . It is in new building but me and my principal wants to get a climate of old town apartment. It have one bedroom and small bathroom, living room with open kitchen. We have there big photograph of Sopot pier by some Portugal (!) photographer who sold us this photo. In bathroom old morrocan tiles on the floor and photo of Baltic sea made by myself. The flat is 200 metres near the sea side.

Stalking on a Saturday

A small one bedroom apartment in an unremarkable 70's block. (We call them "six packs" in Australia.) A small one bedroom apartment that packs a punch. Clever use of a white base that is layered with colour and vintage finds. A small kitchen in an unexpected spot. Great use of mirror back splash and the fun of astro turf on the balcony. (Although the wide angle lens stretch is a little annoying.) Bijou yes. Pokey no. Big style small space in Armadale, Melbourne. Link here while it lasts.

Maison Rika

Climb the stairs above the boutique and gallery space to find the bijou guesthouse. Maison Rika is the creation of Ulrika Lundgren, fashion designer and founder of the Rika label. (In a previous life she was an interior designer - of course!) Classic, elegant, warm and with a twist of vintage, the two bedrooms are stylishly comfortable. A perfect base to explore Amsterdam's "9 streets" area.

Homebox

A wooden box, the size of a standard shipping container has been reworked into portable housing. With a small footprint it comprises 3 levels with simple stairs linking dining, kitchen and toilet on the lower level, sleeping on the middle and living on the top. Usable floor area is 14 sq m with a footprint of only 7 sq m. Designed by German architectural firm Slawik as emergency or temporary housing this clever design experiment gets the mind thinking. A studio at the bottom of the garden? Guest accommodation? A teenage retreat?
