Mastership Wrights

You may be wondering just what in the hell is Mastership Wrights. Well, it's a London based location home that is available through one of our favourite location agencies, Shoot Factory. Michael, one of the owners of the agency, sent us some big juicy photos of this fairly raw space for your viewing pleasure. I love a raw space - I would LOVE the chance to buy a REALLY old home like this one and start taking it apart bit by bit while living in it so you get partially removed walls, peeling wallpaper etc. It's so dramatic and edgy. (P.S. Check out Michael's blog, featuring his home renos).

Bed & Breakfast

Fancy getting away from the hustle and bustle? The idea of a guest house, a bed and breakfast more appealing than an impersonal hotel room? A little bit of paradise in the middle of the Italian countryside? Oh yes please! Toss aside your big city cares and settle into this Upper Tiber Valley barn conversion. It's part of the owners' home. Mid century classics and rural Italy. Sounds like a great marriage. Add a private swimming pool and five hectares of land to explore, fig trees to pluck fruit from, a bocce court in the woods. What more could you want for an escape to the country? Villa Metato Umbria, Italy via Welcome Beyond.

A vintage home, full of life

I found the following home on the website of French magazine Le Journal de la Maison last night and HAD to blog it. I adore homes like this one. Quirky, rustic, vintage, eclectic, colourful, mid century. Blend all those together and I'm completely smitten. I even love that fact that one window pane in the living room is partially painted pink. (Styled and photographed by Dana Van Leeuwen)

Barns and boatsheds

I couldn't help myself. I had to dip back into New Zealand architects Sumin Chaplin's portfolio again. This time I was drawn to their contemporary take on the rustic shed and the old barn. Rich with texture, warm with aged timbers, always a fabulous view and just out and out comfy. Stylish yes but never precious. The barn I can see full of kids and dogs, friends and long summer days. As for the boatshed after the jump, imagine cooking freshly caught fish in that kitchen as the sun starts to set on another perfect day out on the water. If you haven't already you must visit their website. Their portfolio is amazing.

Quickie 1

Production Designer Michael Bednark just finished work on this cottage in Provincetown, MA and his agency sent through some photos. Love the zinc wrapped counters and shelving he created. Might have to steal this idea for my own temporary kitchen re-do. Believe it or not  he also painted all of the walls to look as if they had a thousand layers of paint and then glazed them to look aged. I'd love a weekend  relaxing in this tiny kitchen, whipping up a tasty something, leaning against the counter chin wagging with friends. Think I need those blue spongeware dishes too. Thanks to Alison from The Magnet Agency.
