Cabanas no Rio

Perched on the tidal waters of Comporta south of Lisbon, Portugal are two small cabins. Crafted from recycled timber they reference the local fishermen's huts. The first cabin contains a bedroom and bathroom. The second a living space with basic kitchen. Simple and beautiful, romantic and at one with the wetlands. Cabanas no Rio by architect Manuel Aires Mateus. In my dreams I am there already.

Casa Zinc

Just outside Uruguay's hip resort town of Punta del Este, in the coastal village of La Barra is the small and charming hotel Casa Zinc. Just six guest rooms and a life time of vintage finds. Industrial and salvaged, antique and just plain quirky. Long summer days by the sea just got a lot more interesting with digs like these.

Emily Henson

When I grow up I want to be an interior stylist like Emily Henson. In the meantime while I continue to dream of a life of props and rearranging other people's homes, I'll peruse her portfolio then dog-ear my copy of her book Modern Rustic, my all-time favourite that I could flip through every night before bed to evoke dreams about reclaimed wood, faux sheepskins and vintage finds.

Like a series of stage sets or a a ramble of rooms filled with one man's dreams and treasure Rooigem House in Sint-Kruis, Belgium is the creation of antiques dealer and designer Jean-Phillipe Demeyer. The medieval manor with moat has been lovingly restored and now is home and business. The riot of colour and pattern and OTT pieces make it a sensory delight. Imagine visiting in real life. Where to look. What to touch.
