Stalking in Sydney 2

My second apartment today is just a suburb or two away in Waterloo. Co-incidentally (or not) it is also by SJB Architects. A smaller, more intimate space over two levels with a moody palette and beautiful stone floors. The fact that it is a short stroll to the fabulous dining and shopping of the Danks Street precinct makes it even more appealing. Link here while it lasts.

A 16th century family manor in Cotswolds

Such a beautiful home and a beautiful story. Keeping things traditional today. Dating back to 1555 this beautiful Grade II listed property has both an impressive history and a fascinating human story. Having been owned by a particular family for some generations, it was sold by the current owner’s grandmother when he was just a boy. Although he was very young at the time, the sale greatly affected him. He vowed that as an adult he would buy back the house which had brought him so many happy childhood memories – a goal which he recently achieved much to the delight of his family. We were thrilled to be approached by the family to help restore the house to its natural grandeur. We began by stripping away to rediscover original features, such as beautiful wooden panelling and magnificent stone fireplaces, which had become lost under layers of incongruous decoration. Our clients wanted a graceful yet contemporary feel which we achieved by using a light colour scheme and natural materials. Designed by Sims Hilditch.

A home in Portland by Bright Designlab

Loving this mid-century vibe Portland home designed by Bright Designlab. A newlywed couple, came to us having just purchased their home in NE Portland: a completely modernized, traditional Portland home. The scope of the project was to fully furnish the spaces and make their new nest livable, functional; reflecting the couple's undeniable charismatic personality... with room to grow. The shingled home is three stories tall (now with renovated attic floor), and very light, bright, and open, with traditional moldings and details. Bright Designlab pulled together a selection of classic pieces along with handcrafted, vintage and custom furniture to complement.

A casually elegant apartment

Another fabulous project by Australian designer Claire Stevens, but much more subtle and neutral. When past clients contacted us with the news that they were relocating and down sizing from their family home in Toowoomba (the Toowoomba Residence) to an apartment in Kangaroo Point we were thrilled. Being on the ground floor with only Northeast facing windows and doors, a light colour scheme of white, grey and blue was employed to keep the apartment feeling fresh and bright. The kitchen and living areas were reconfigured to flow more seamlessly onto the external patio and garden, while bespoke cabinetry was installed to maximise storage. The result is an elegant apartment surrounded by lush gardens (a tribute to the client’s green thumb) that imbues a sense of relaxed comfort. Photos: Mindi Cooke

A designer's home

What would you expect from American fashion and homewares designer James Perse when it comes to his own home? The king of the minimalist (and expensive) t-shirt has taken a rather average Malibu "farmhouse" and worked his magic to create a home where old-world charm meets modern sophistication in a carefully curated mix of antiques and pieces from his own furniture collections.
