Stones

So much more than a pile of stones. The transformation of a ramshackle series of buildings into a minimalist, contemporary home is a thing of beauty while showing respect for place, materials and history. Rustic yet ultra modern the stone house in Scaiano, Switzerland by Wespi de Meuron Romeo Architects.

Wide open arms

The two intersecting blocks that comprise this Woollahra house by Sydney-based architectural firm Tzannes Associates have been arranged to suit an irregular site. More so they are like two giant arms wide open to embrace the outside. With walls and windows that slide and concertina the interiors become part of the garden. What a joy to have that flowering magnolia as part of your living room.

The Homecoming House by Atelier Bond

I looooove this mid-century vibe 'The Homecoming' house designed by Adelaide, South Australia architecture firm Atelier Bond. The blend of indoor-outdoor has me wanting to move to the tropics even more than ever. The Homecoming marks a new chapter for this family who returned to Adelaide after a stint overseas. Their brief to Atelier Bond included a significant addition to the rear of their untouched villa as well as reconfiguring the floorplan of the original dwelling to better suit their needs. The result is a bright and open lounge and entertaining space that accommodates their relaxed lifestyle, 2.5 bathrooms and a generous outdoor wrap-around deck that encapsulates the best of Australian living and style. Photos: Russell Millard Photography (Thank you Leisha and Greg Bond for sharing your project with us!)

HOMEROOM Studio

I was so excited when Romy Dankner of HOMEROOM Studio emailed with her latest project. The contemporary home features clean lines, beautiful finishes (that stone in the kitchen ... swoon) and bright pops of colour in an otherwise neutral palette. I love Romy's use of unusual pendant lighting in the bathrooms and the bone inlay pieces that are a signature of her work. Check out her Instragram too to keep up with her latest designs and finds.

A couple of new projects by extrArchitecture

Maddalena Cannarsa of extrArchitecture is an Italian architect living in London, and Jo featured her flat a while back here. She emailed recently wanting to share a couple of her recent projects with us. This first project is the interior design refurbishment of a home in Notting Hill. The flooring is beautiful (wide plank all the way!) and the kitchen is simple and sleek.
