Modern minimalism in Berlin

Whenever I see a home as minimalist as this I wonder how long the sparseness would last if I moved in. Like, A DAY. MAYBE TWO. This 155 sq m home is gorgeous though as-is. So much open space. As much as I love ornate moldings found in old heritage homes, the lack of it here really appeals to me. Who needs baseboards anyway?!

Reader's home - Andrew's renovated minimalist flat in Madrid

In February a reader named Andrew sent over photos of his Devon Rex for Monday's Pets on Furniture, and the other day he send along some photos to his newly renovated flat in Madrid. A huge congrats to him as it is an incredibly drastic transformation that turned out beautifully, and was recently featured in AD Spain. I have to start with a few before photos. It turns out it had been home to squatters for 20 years before Andrew got his hands it. It had no working bathroom, lowered ceilings, ruined floor and walls....it was pretty hideous.

And look at it now!!!!! (Photos: Lupe Clement)

Shadow

It's like a shadow house, a phantom building. There but not there. Starkly minimalist this modern addition to a historic home is cartoon like in its form, its all black walls and roof helping it "disappear". Housing a garage and additional living space it is connected to the existing stone building by a glass walkway allowing for a strong delineation between old and new. Kensington Park Residence by South Australian Proske Architects.

A sophisticated, minimalist courtyard garden

Simple, clean lined, modern and low maintenance -  doesn't mean that this small inner city courtyard isn't a sophisticated urban oasis. Annandale landscape design by Secret Gardens.
