Cape Cod dreaming

For all those mid century aficionados out there sometimes a dream can come true. You may never get to own a classic 60s beach shack on Cape Cod but you can rent it for a week. Hatch Cottage, an experimental house designed by Jack Hall. An almost untouched time capsule with panoramic water views and modernist simplicity. (Perhaps some of the photos could have been styled better but that's a minor quibble if you have a major crush on modernism.) Via The Modern House.

A remodeled home in San Francisco

As I prepare this post ready I am packing my bags and booking a flight to San Francisco because I am moving in!!! This house is amazing! Thank you to interior designers Lisa and Tiffany of MANSFIELD + O’NEIL for sharing this project. Our clients loved their prime location in a sylvan setting of the Bay Area (Marin) hills; however, they rejected the suburban aesthetics of the former house and were tired of its dark, compartmentalized interiors. The complete remodel transformed the house into a light-filled, open plan jewel-box of a house that now delights the family and fosters gracious California indoor-outdoor living. The furniture and finishings are edited and modern, but still approachable and family-friendly, accommodating two professional parents, twin teenage boys, and a lively dog. The focus of this project was on quality of space, materials, and finishings – not the quantity – and it's restrained footprint and interior epitomizes clean, considered design. Stalking on a Saturday

I'm stalking a mid century classic, Bynya House, on the northern beaches of Sydney. Peter Muller, one of Australia’s most highly regarded and innovative architects, designed this Palm Beach house in 1954 for his own family (with subsequent renovations in 2014-2015). With its low slung form, cantilevered eaves and stepped ceiling and roof line, incorporated rock feature and all that glass, it is a wonderful example of the importance of the relationship between building and site. Please someone lend me the money so I can buy it and fill it full of my own mid century classic furniture. (You'll have to lend me the money for the furniture too.) For sale via Modern House. Link here while it lasts.

Modern mid century

Obvious mid century roots have been enhanced by new profiles and a more contemporary line in this house by Sydney-based Nobbs Radford Architects. A sense of light and space is enhanced by soaring ceilings, light wells and voids. A galley kitchen harks back to the 60s but is a modern, fresh take with on point finishes. I'm smitten.

That perfect place

The perfect place. You know it. That house, that interior, the furniture you dream about and hope one day to own. The place that whispers to your soul. "Come find me." Well I found mine in, of all places, Montauk, Long Island and it's by Robert McKinley.
