Rustic meets luxury in the Victorian country in this barn conversion by Built by Wilson. Corrugated iron, old timbers and stone softened by leather and wool. Iconic materials and attention to detail breathe new life into what was once a working farm building now the perfect space to gather, celebrate or relax in style.
Becky of Libby Kirwin Real Estate sent over some photos of this fantastic penthouse condo in Newport, Rhode Island. Libby worked with an investor to transform a dilapidated neighbourhood elementary school into a 13-unit condominium building, which sold out pretty quickly and I can see why! With exposed brick and beams and lots of ceiling angles for added architectural interest, this is a dream! And those hardwood floors are gorgeous but I can't believe the stagers covered it up with so many large rugs. Other than that I am in love.
Designed as a live/work space for an artist the standout design feature of this home is the freestanding OSB shelving system that rises over four floors with access from each level. The first two floors are devoted the studio space and storage with racking system for paintings and the cube storage while climbing higher brings you to the living areas on the top two floors. Or should that be the skeleton on the ceiling? It may be the deal breaker if you want to come on my virtual getaway to this loft style apartment in Tribeca, New York which ticks all the boxes. Exposed brick walls, light streaming in the the tall windows, a mini jungle, curios on industrial style shelves, great kitchen ... and the skeleton above the dining table. I've been staring at it for ages trying to work out what the model is actually of. Ichthyosaur? Prehistoric razor toothed dolphin? A cousin of the Loch Ness Monster? It would certainly make for an interesting dinner party conversation. Franklin Place is available through onefinestay.
Alex of Kia Designs sent over photos of a property they designed that is soon going to be listed for sale. It is lofty with huge windows which are both bonuses in my book so I had to share. This particular property was once the ballroom of a grand townhouse on the Chelsea borders in London. The space had previously been converted into a pokey two bed, 1 bath flat with large mezzanine and windowless kitchen. It felt very much like a student let, with compromised ceiling heights and awkward room sizes and no storage. You were very aware that you were in a room which had been chopped up. We emptied it and started from scratch, highlighting the grander elements, like the stunning windows and balcony and the vast ceiling height. We then moved the kitchen into the living space, so that you actually got to enjoy the view. In it’s place we put a personal gym, as the flat is in an area which oddly lacks one, despite being full of prime clientele. We included lots of storage in the entrance hall and enlarged the downstairs bathroom. The original mezzanine space became a grand master bedroom, with a walk-thought wardrobe into a hidden ensuite. The Tom Dixon copper lights were bought a few years ago, so they were quite unusual at the time they went in…. Did I mention the windows?! GORG! If I bought this space I think I would want to highlight them a bit more - maybe paint the frames and shutters black. I would splurge on some massive art work and a tall ornate gold vintage mirror for over the fireplace. Such a great space to play around with.
