Modern minimalism in a period building. Midcentury references in a sleek London pad. A sharp contemporay look softened by the thick wool rug and touches of brass. I need to take a trip to Tivoli, NY and stay in this fabulously decorated hotel. I adore the simplicity, playfulness, bold colours, quirky furniture and that grey trim everywhere!! Hotel Tivoli and its accompanying farm-to-table restaurant The Corner is a century-old building situated in the historic town of Tivoli, New York. Owned by painters Brice and Helen Marden, the property is filled with an eclectic collection of furniture, lighting and art. Reunion Goods & Services worked with the Mardens to infuse the space with lightness punctuated by individualistic moments. The design included a restaurant space with a custom marble bar, two dining rooms and ten unique guest rooms. The identity for the hotel and restaurant was a direct collaboration with Brice whose drawings are paired with reserved text evocative of gallery wall captions. This typography was carried throughout the space, with hand-painted numerals on doors and sparing use of color.
Thursday - the sad forgotten sister of Friday. No one ever yells "Thank God it's Thursday". No one ever counts down the last few hours until after work drinks or the freedom of the weekend. Thursday is a plod-along day, a "let's get it over so we can go to sleep and yell TGIF the next morning" sort of day. So here is my Thursday gift to you, a virtual escape to brighten up the stolid workaday. Tamarind Beach at Paradise Cove, a compound of three houses (for vacation rental) in the tropical paradise of Vanuatu. A sophisticated taste of island life steps from crystal blue waters and coral reefs. This is one virtual getaway I wish I could make in real life.
Hump day? What hump day? No we're all on a virtual getaway to Marrakech, to Riad Mena & Beyond. Just when I though my love affair with all things Moroccan might be waning I'm smitten by this traditional riad with it's minimalist interiors and iconic 20th century furniture pieces thrown into the mix. The "beyond" bit? Forty-five minutes outside of Marrakech, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains is the Riad Mena & Beyond outpost. A fully-functioning permaculture farm where you can spend the day in wonderful nature, enjoy a seasonal picnic, or even spend some nights in the rustically charming houses. I'll be back at the main house waiting by the pool.
The ultimate Aussie dream - a beautiful beach front home. Stylish yet easy going with stunning water views. Yes please! We may not be able to own it but we can escape the everyday rat race and relax in this little piece of paradise on Pittwater in Sydney's Palm Beach.
