6 months, 23 000+ photos, an unusual hotel and one of the world's clearest skies. A magical timelapse. Let's just say that the view at the Hotel Elqui Domos in Pisco Elqui, Chile goes on forever. A special place, part history, part fantasy, part mystery, part dream made reality. Château de Marteret in Southwest France in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Gascony region has a singular charm. The current owners have commissioned over 20 artists to help bring their vision to life. The estate is about creative power and inspiration, nurturing life and delving into its meaning and mysteries. It's philosophy meets interior design. Perhaps that is a little glib but whatever Château de Marteret would profess to be it certainly is beautiful ... and unusual.
Climb the stairs above the boutique and gallery space to find the bijou guesthouse. Maison Rika is the creation of Ulrika Lundgren, fashion designer and founder of the Rika label. (In a previous life she was an interior designer - of course!) Classic, elegant, warm and with a twist of vintage, the two bedrooms are stylishly comfortable. A perfect base to explore Amsterdam's "9 streets" area.
Take me away to a land of snow, a land of steep mountains and tumbling valleys. I want to hide away from the world in a wooden house clinging to the slopes in an age-old hamlet. Annalisa and Peter Zumthor's timber houses perch above their age blackened neighbours in Leis in Val, Switzerland (population 20). Once inside the houses wrap you in their close embrace, while classic midcentury and modern furniture plays against the soft golden gleam of the wooden walls. Inspired by the über cool (or should that be très cool ;) interiors of the new Hôtel Paradis in Paris. With a quirky mix of vintage, midcentury and modern, the rooms in the 3 star boutique hotel designed by Chzon are layered with colour and pattern. Funky and fun and very reasonably priced. After all staying in style shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I'll take the room with the view thanks!
