Stalking in the same street part 1

First stalking of the year and I'm excited. (Beats chest. Bellows loudly. Frightens neighbour's children.) I'm in Rozelle, Sydney and but it's not just one home I'm stalking. It's two. Two houses, same suburb, same street, separated by scant meters. I'm partial to both, can't afford either but my love affair with small heritage cottages with architect extensions continues. First the sandstone house. Link here while it lasts.

Summertime in the backyard

Please forgive me but I just can't get enough backyard inspiration at the moment. Summer time in Australia is all about opening the inside to the out, living, eating, drinking and even showering outside. OK, OK the showering is more about washing the salt and sand off after a trip to the beach. I love the small but simply stylish backyard at this Manly, Sydney home designed by Harrison’s Landscaping. I see books and drinks and friends and catching the breeze. I see summer in the backyard.

Pipe dream

This award-winning show garden by Melbourne-based Alison Douglas Design is just the inspiration I need for that awkward spot at the end of my garden. I just have to explain to my husband why I need to buy a large concrete culvert pipe.

PIPE DREAM is a hidden oasis in our busy city designed as an antidote to our epidemic of being time poor. The meditation moon gate/day bed, reflective water feature and fire pit are all created from concrete pipes. Concrete was chosen as a feature material to reference the ‘concrete jungle’ we inhabit ... Pipe Dream is a place to stop, meditate, reflect and breathe. As this is easier said than done one might call it a ‘Pipe Dream’.

Stalking 2

I'm stalking a "little" country getaway in the old gold rush town of Kyneton just outside Melbourne. A "simple shack" surrounded by manicured gardens. Another house that I'd love to see in real life. I'm sure it would be stunning if the photos were more magazine worthy, less wide angle real estate. Copper bath tubs, Edwardian era frills of fretwork and stained glass, wide plank floors and a picket fence. Link here while it lasts.
