37.2

I thought I'd get a bit artsy fartsy with you all this afternoon and feature two really creative projects by Parisian architecture firm 37.2 (made up of Francesca Bonesio and Nicolas Guiraud). First up we've got "cook on the wild side". This domestic installation is a portrait of our client Lise. Made of multiple oak pieces, it shows two distinctive sides of Lise's personality. The corridor side is a very symmetrical, neat, precise and tidy structure that turns wild. The kitchen side is a very instinctive, light and chaotic design that seems more fragile. What a fun way to hide an ugly hood fan!

Reader's home - a bit of New York industrial in Paris

Philippe Choplin (of Le Loft Interior Decoration) is a Parisian about to become a resident of New York and pursue his career as an interior designer (after 25+ years in IT). He sent us photos of his remodelled townhouse in Paris, where an industrial New York loft was his inspiration. Fellow readers, if you've got a male significant other in your life who is all about masculine decor where industrial touches are abundant, grab them now and have them take a peek at this. Philippe's home is about as masculine and industrial as you can get (I'd just lose the tablecloth on the dining table). Here's a bit of info on this pretty cool guy's pad, including details of Philippe's amazing vintage finds.
This project was realized by an architect (Philippe Ponceblanc) and a soon-to-be Interior Designer (Philippe Choplin). Philippe Choplin custom-designed 2 light fixtures using American telegraph pole isolators. Below is an abstract list of the decorative objects serving the decoration:
- a 1920s Cutler Mail System from a hotel in Knoxville, TN equipped with 6 stories of "chute"
- a 1960s Marvy barber pole
- 30+ American car door handles from the 1950s
- never-used 1950s bakelite switches
- a metal & glass office door which was transformed into a sliding door
- NYC subway grab handles from the 60s
- a Duncan-Miller parking meter from the 40s
The kitchen is by Leicht and Siemens.
Le Loft Interior Decoration will bring French style to American homes and US Industrial style to French houses. It will focus on using the latest technology and appliance, but realizing decoration that have the soul of vintage and reclaim.

Magic

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away lived a photographer of great renown. His talent knew no bounds. His images were awash in soft light. His compositions just so. His portfolio prodigious. He was in fact a magician, a sorcerer of light and a weaver of dreams. His name ... Romain Ricard.

Tree house

Magical. Playful. Sophisticated yet childlike. What a joy it would be to live in this Paris loft by interior architect Grégoire De Lafforest. From the pine tree in the living area to the hothouse in the kitchen, sorry the kitchen in the hothouse the loft is whimsical like a modern fairytale.

"Once upon a time a thoroughly modern garçon lived with his parents in a wood on rue Voltaire in the 11e arrondissement ... "

Chez Ric & Fer

Chez Ric & Fer is a bed and breakfast in Coucy le Château, Northern France owned by Richard and Fernanda Gamba. The home is situated in one of the city's oldest houses which was rebuilt with the castle's stones right after the bombings of World War I. It used to be the village's chemist's shop during the 1920's. Very unexpectedly, Richard and Fernanda gave the rustic accomodations a modern, mid-century vintage twist - who would have thought?! They have a phenomenal suite or a bedroom available if you're looking for funky vacation digs. Sign me up! (I even speak French!)
