The Modern Shop

This is just a quick post to welcome The Modern Shop to our sidebar. I have featured this shop before, back in October when I went to their grand opening (and when it was called The Modern Light). I am always eager to help promote local shops, especially ones as COOL as this because I often complain about the sh*tty selection of shops (for furniture and clothing) here in Ottawa. The Modern Shop is FOR SURE among my top 5. I have to admit I've been avoiding stopping by there lately because they carry such awesome furniture and lighting and I really need to get through my house additions first before I buy more stuff. They carry lines such as Flos, Hay, Modernica, MASHstudios, Moooi, Thonet, Jonathan Adler and MANY more. They'll ship anywhere, and offer free shipping on most orders within North America.
Now I'm thinking maybe I could stop by The Modern Shop today, just for a few minutes....

One can dream

Once upon a time there were some very well-off folks in Vancouver who wanted big new homes. They called upon a builder by the name of Keystone Projects Ltd. and asked them to build the homes of their dreams. They asked for fancy kitchens and bathrooms and rooms for their pool tables and views to die for and a car lover's garage. And POOF! Keystone made it happen. And they were beautiful. This, my friends, is how the other half live.

Robert Bailey

I came across the portfolio of Vancouver-based interior designer Robert Bailey when he sent an email a few weeks ago with a submission for a pets on furniture post (his entry is the second one here). I immediately took notice of his cool "boxy" shelving (ok maybe not immediately as I first totally fell in love with his French Bulldog). His timeless designs are modern and contemporary, perfect for funky downtown Vancouver lofts. And I HAVE to show my husband the built-in TV surrounded by storage - genius!

Friday eye candy

When this post publishes I will be madly cleaning house and doing last minute packing for my trip to one of my favourite places on earth (not that I've been to many), Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I worked my arse off to get some posts done to publish while I'm away (11 days - we leave tomorrow morning) so you won't even notice I'm gone. While you're not noticing I'm gone, I thought you'd enjoy some eye candy from one of my favourite magazines that I've mentioned on occasion (here, here and here), Décormag - which happens to be French Canadian. :-) (I saw those chairs above at Beige, and almost bought one for my desk...kicking myself now that I didn't buy a whole set!)
