Rustic with a twist

While I'm on a role with rustic interiors, how about another one? This completely renovated cabin is located in the town of Megéve in the French Alps. It was a 2 year project to renovate the 1870 structure, and was decorated by Belgian decorator Lionel Jadot. It's filled with an unexpected mix of vintage finds and elements from trips to Africa, Asia and Europe. The decor is a fantastic surprise, but I'm a little taken aback by the Bisazza tiles on the kitchen island. Those don't make sense to me for this home - they're too elegant. Everything else = LOVE!!! I thought I'd do a quick post of some really simple, serene vacation homes in Sweden to calm the senses. By architect Mikael Bergquist.

An Icelandic beauty

I am so stoked to have devoured the latest issue of Home & Delicious, created by Iceland's powerhouse couple Gunnar Sverrisson (a photographer) and Halla Bára Gestsdóttir (a designer). I featured a couple of homes from their first issue here and here and I can't wait to show you one from issue #2 (there are so many incredible homes featured I had a hard time deciding one one to blog). Magical photos and beautiful spaces, as I have come to expect from my new favourite online shelter magazine. This home is a 36 m2 cabin on a lake, build in the 70's and moved from it's original to current location in the 90's, then extended and electricity added. The predominantly white/black/blue colour scheme and casual vibe is perfect for the rugged surroundings.

Cabin in a mountain

Love this 160 square metre cabin located literally in a mountainside. This cabin blends with nature both inside and out, but is unexpectedly furnished with modern Dutch designs (plates, cups, vases and lamps by Hella Jongerius, blankets and pillows Scholten & Baijings, lamps designed by Marcel Wanders, carpets of Claudy Jongstra, and my favourite Danish chair - Papa Bear by Hans Wegner).
