At the office on a Sunday

Once again I am completely envious of this work environment that could not be more opposite of the one I have been living with for the past 16 years. The folks working for GitHub in SoMa, San Francisco, have it made 10 times over thanks to the designers at Studio Hatch.

At the core of GitHub technology is social collaboration, which was made physically evident in their 55,000 square foot headquarters. The three story office space includes a variety of work environments to accommodate different work styles and flexibility including multiple cafes, a commercial kitchen, full bar, indoor park, dojo and coder caves. As a company founded in local cafes and bars around the city of San Francisco, it was important to infuse these types of environments throughout the space as a nod to the company’s roots.

The beautiful brick and timber space was once the site of a dried fruit packing warehouse in the early 1900’s. Along with GitHub’s own "ship it" mentality, the design honors the rich roots of the space through the use of vintage shipping containers, deconstructed and rebuilt on site as a reference to the train that rolled right through the ground floor.

Pink Room by Circle Line

I absolutely love everything about this 60 m2 bar in Kiev, Ukraine called Pink Room designed by Circle Line Interiors. From the colour scheme and the glamorous vibe to how it operates. Bar is situated in a historic part of building of old cinema “Kiev” in the centre of the city. Owners of the place wanted to create something that differs from the rest of speakeasy bars which already exist in the city. It was supposed to become the secret place for all cool underground music lovers, for those who appreciate art of cocktail culture, of silent cinema performances and for those who appreciate french style of the beginning of 20th century. Pink room is placed at an old stairway of the cinema, which was closed for the last 10 years. The entrance is behind the replica of Jules Chéret's poster "Exposition universelle de 1889 : Le pays des fées". Instead of Paris our designers painted Kiev's historic Sofia square. To enter speakeasy one has to know secret code on a door, which can be obtained only from the owner of Pink Room. The overall size of the place is 60 square meters.

Above the exit neon sign “Shhh…” reminds guests of Pink Room's secrets that they should keep to themselves after leaving it.

Bar envy

Isn't this just the most fantastic little built-in bar?! Gawd I love this, having dreamed of having a dedicated bar area for years but never really having enough space or a decent spot. I would take this and make it slightly wider with shelving on the sides to display bottles of booze. *sigh* Via Incorporated Architecture & Design

Dark and moody

Velvet, leather, brass, aged wood and murano glass. A mid century riff with Scandi classics sits with Elizabethan revival. Wrapped round and round with a dark and moody paint job. A chiaroscuro clash between scantily skimmed windows and the darkest blue walls. The Wolf Upstairs Events Space by Meme of Melbourne. Spurn the noon day sun and meet me for a drink.
