Colour

Just because you have white walls doesn't mean you can't be surrounded by colour. Even better, just because you rent and have white walls which you can't paint, doesn't mean you can't do colour with style and flair. So much inspiration from this property styled by one of my favourite Melbourne homewares shops Fenton & Fenton.

A colourful Sydney Pied-à-terre

This pied-à-terre by Alexandra Kidd Design starts with a classic aesthetic and ramps up the impact with bold bursts of colour. Rich pinks, reds and oranges are splashed across the living room with vivid art works and fabrics but the energy is tempered by neutral walls and floors. Watch out for the bedroom though. Yellow and fuschia reign. An apartment where small makes a big impact.

Still stalking

I'm stalking an architect designed home clinging to the hillside in the Sydney suburb of Bronte. The Marsh Cashman Koolloos design uses a raw palette of off form concrete, form ply, plate steel and raw recycled hardwood with a play between sinuous curves and solid blocks. Light pours in through clerestory windows making the roof appear to float above the concrete walls. Modern living on a narrow sloping block and only minutes to the beach. Real estate link here while it lasts and link to the house on the architects' site here.

Stalking 2 years apart

I'm stalking a classic 60s pad in Melbourne's salubrious suburb of Toorak but it's a case of déjà vu. I stalked this home 2 years ago in a leftovers post. As the building is being sold as a "knock it down and build an architect designed 5 bedroom, pool and 3 car upgrade" you can see that nothing has changed to the shell. One thing that has is the styling. The current incarnation is all scandi modern while in its previous life it was mid century minimal. Which do you prefer? I know that I'd be happy with either. OK, OK I like the scandi better but that's not the point. I think I like the old 60s groove better than any Toorak McMansion that would replace it. Link for the current sale here and the previous sale here.

Sunshine on the water

Another stunning home from the Luxe Houses stable. Stylish, light filled rooms overlooking the Pittwater at Palm Beach. (I recognise this beautiful home as the work of interior designer Justine Hugh-Jones.) Dream holidays are made of this. Friends, family, fabulous house and sunshine sparkling on the water. More about Iluka Villa here.
