Holiday House

Interior designer Kelley Proxmire is at it again with designs in another showhouse. This time it's the Holiday House in New York. She designed a beautiful, traditional bedroom using a warm colour palette. The chocolate brown walls look good enough to eat.

I found some photos on Kelley's website we haven't posted before of an open-air porch. Love the boldness of the black and white with red accents. The space has such a fabulous Hollywood Regency feel.

Auction for cancer

Roan emailed Jo and I, and I had to post about this because he is a fellow Canadian, and my parents are both cancer survivors:

"I was hoping you'd be interested in perhaps blogging about my annual Cancer Society charity auction of 20th Century Design and Decorative Art. This will be the 5th year of the auction, with sales helping generate vital funding for cancer research and emotional support programs for those living with the disease. Held in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, a portion of every sale will be donated to the cause.

The auction will take place on eBay, with items to be listed throughout the week of November 28th, with all listings to end in sequence on December 8th.

This year's collection includes works by Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Eero Saarinen, Hans Wegner, Jean Prouve, Charlotte Perriand, and many more. As well, some interesting art pieces by Takashi Murakami, Larry Clark, Mark Gonzales, and Jeff Koons are also in the mix.

The complete catalog is online now at: ModernLove "

The items up for auction are absolutely incredible. I seriously had a hard time not grabbing every single photo on the website. I love every single piece. Below is just a small sample of what is available. Wishing you lots of luck with the auction Roan!!

What's behind the gates? Stalking in NZ

Often something spectacular is hiding behind simple walls. This is just a sneak peek at a stunning Auckland home on the market now. This tantalising preview (read real estate agent MUST take more photos to keep me happy) taunts you with the spectacular view, the luxurious finishes, the unique architecture and the hint of a livable family home. (Do I sound like a real estate agent myself?) What you can't see is the private beach at the bottom of the stairs. Perhaps if there were more images I'd be in danger of hyperventilating. See it here while the link lasts.

Peter Pennoyer

Peter Pennoyer is a classicist in the manner of the master nineteenth century gentlemen-architects - "elegance in the manipulation of traditional forms". His buildings are beautiful and classic based in historical fact, referenced by historical taste and style but truly livable and relevant in the twenty-first century. Beauty, utility, fitness - words that his multifaceted and holistic architectural firm hold as central principles

Lavender Hill

It's grey and dreary these days as winter approaches, and while I prepare to hibernate, I look for inspiration in homes like this one. It's bright and warm and eclectic which I am always drawn to.
