My chair

Just wanted to give a quick but proper mention to my first ever design-related competition for Urban Barn, because it's a pretty cool idea... 5 bloggers across Canada got to pick a chair, some fabric and extras, and you vote (which gives you the opportunity to win your own custom chair or some Urban Barn gift cards). The chairs will be auctioned off at the end, and each blogger got to choose a charity. I chose the Country Cat Sanctuary - who were kind enough to lend me a trap for my recent stray cat rescue operation and helped cover the cost of vet bills.

So that's my chair above. I had initially selected a slipper chair with houndstooth fabric with pink piping but they had no bright colours in stock so above is my second option. Go vote for your favourite (hopefully mine!) here

Aussie stylin'

Aussie style. Relaxed, casual, bright, fun, at times irreverent, always fresh. Aussie stylist. Relaxed, casual, bright, fun, at times irreverent, always fresh. Lovin' Louise Owens' portfolio. This stylist has captured the Aussie essence perfectly.

Omer Arbel

Rising from a gentle slope between two stands of trees is an extraordinary house. Concrete and glass, steel and massive reclaimed Douglas Fir beams. Triangles folding on each other and unfolding on the landscape. Monolithic presence lightened by walls of folding glass doors. It's like being under a cave like overhang. Shaded and cool, protected and enclosed looking out on the world. The weight of the concrete house rising from the earth juxtaposed with waving fields of grass, echoed by the mass of trees. Manmade vs nature. Solid form vs open spaces. All magically illuminated by "glow worm" lights hanging from its cave ceiling. A family house built on rural acreage designed by Vancouver based architect Omer Arbel.

Because I am really tired of winter...

...and because I love the design of this backyard. Jared of topsy design just completed decorating and landscaping this patio in the Hollywood Hills (where they get to enjoy decent weather all year round). Casual and vintage loveliness.

Pernille Kaalund

Miserable weather and a really crappy week so far at my day job has left me desperate for some eye candy as an escape from my reality. I have found some in the beautiful photography of Pernille Kaalund (previous post of her work here).

P.S. I had mentioned recently about a "Chairity Competition" I was taking part in with 4 other bloggers for Urban Barn. Our chairs have been manufactured and you can now vote! Check it out here and I'd love your vote if you dig my chair!
