This is my kind of house - modern mixed with traditional architecture. It is the best of both worlds. By HÛT Architecture. The brief was to create a family house that was minimal but not minimalist, with sleek spaces that still had personality. HÛT addressed the brief by creating a home that preserved the character of the existing building and merged this with exciting modern design. The major architectural addition came in the form of two slick black boxes to the rear of the property. These structures enclose a new staircase that leads down to large open-plan basement level, an area that forms the social heart of the property. (Photos: Matt Chisnall)
Jolson's renovation and reinterpretation of Robin Boyd's 1954 Richardson House is a triumph. The original house was literally built as a bridge to resolve site difficulties by spanning a dry creek bed that ran through the lot. The Melbourne-based studio's additions address the iconic shape, extrapolating Boyd's exploration of geometry with circles and tangents. The new glances the old, meets, embraces, pulls away all the time celebrating the interplay of house and landscape.
One of the few bathrooms where graffiti is encouraged. And no, I will never tire of chalkboard walls. By Nicole Hollis.
Is the job of an interior stylist merely to fluff the pillows? I think not! But that is the cheeky name of the tumblr site for Swedish interior stylist/decorator/product designer Myrica Bergqvist where you can follow her work. I love these unpretentious and quirky spaces.
